No action has been taken as of Friday morning after a North Little Rock High School student was seen in a video blowing smoke at his teacher during an argument earlier this week, according to the school district.

That 10-second video, which has been viewed more than 40,000 times as of Friday, was posted to YouTube by user "J Doe" on Tuesday, one day after the reported incident.

In a North Little Rock police report, the teacher said he told the 18-year-old student about 9:30 a.m. Monday that he would have to sit in the hallway to take his final exam — a request the student refused.

The teacher then warned the student that he would write him up and call for his removal from the classroom, according to the report. While reaching for the intercom button, the student said, "Hit that button, I dare you," the teacher told police.

After pushing the intercom button, the teacher said he looked away to write the student up for his actions and began to hear a "commotion" from students "going wild" in his classroom.

According to the report, the teacher turned around and saw that the student had "lit a cigar and was taking a drag off of it."

"[The student] then got up from his seat, walked up to [his teacher] and blew smoke in his face three times," the report stated.

Monday's incident wasn't the first time the student had been removed from his classroom this year, the teacher said, citing problems on "several occasions."

A campus supervisor arrived and escorted the student out of the classroom shortly after, with the student saying "I'll be back."

The police report lists the offense as insult or abuse of a teacher. Action against the student could range from no action to expulsion once a final review is completed, the district said.

Kelly Rodgers, superintendent of the North Little Rock School District, said he had not received a recommendation for any action regarding the student as of Friday morning.

Calling the incident a "very unfortunate situation," he added that the recommendation from the high school will "be appropriate" for the offense.

A copy of the video was forwarded to North Little Rock Assistant Principal Ricky Jones, according to police.

after I was suspended, my old man would have changed my attitude right away. the apology to the teacher would have proceeded soon after my return.

A student who repeatedly disrupts the classroom should be expelled indefinitely. Education is not a right, it is a privilege. Let the parents deal with the problem and worry about whether he gets an education or not.
I'd bet this boy is a criminal in training. That's what his lack of respect indicates.

Too bad the smoke blowing couldn't be called assault with a weapon and the ensuing punch in the mouth as self defence

It would be under the WorkSafe act in BC.

the teacher sure kept his cool,
i admire people like this,it would take everything in my power to not lose my cool.

Kept his cool or doesn't have the balls to defend himself?

i think it is a gift when someone can explore their emotions before acting upon an action.
i think sometimes it is a maturity thing,or is it possible to be born with such a gift,
i think about my own shameful actions where i had opportunity to act or demonstrate in a different manner, and it did not happen,it all seems like so long ago,oh well.
power to the teacher.

He was likely more afraid of litigation than the kid though. Keeping ones cool
is something of a gift. It opens you up to criticism for being afraid, instead of
understanding hitting the kid would not be brave it would be stupid.

And yes they are our future and they will do well the next generation and here's why.

My father told me a story from back in WWII. The Canadians were passing through
Pompey and dad noticed some scribbling on a wall that was being excavated. He
asked an interpreter what the Latin words said. The bemused response was,

"Today's kids are going to the dogs" That was nearly two thousand years ago and it
has not happened yet.
