An Air India worker was killed instantly when he was sucked into a jet engine on the tarmac at the Mumbai airport Wednesday.
The horrifying accident happened as flight AI619 was preparing to take off to Hyderabad.
Air India told local media the co-pilot mistook a signal to start the engine. When he switched it on, the nearby technician was pulled in.
"We are deeply saddened and regret the tragic incident. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family," Ashwani Lohani, the airline's chairman and managing director, said in a statement to Indian media.
Another worker told the Hindustan Times the worker's body remained trapped in the engine, and they were working to retrieve it.
The airline and police are investigating.

Everybody dies instantly. One moment your heart is beating, the next moment....not so much

If it ever happens to me I want the engine to be running at full throttle. There are some accidents a person isn't meant to walk away from.
