Performing 12,000 random acts of kindness in 24 hours is no easy feat, but it’s one WestJet is more than willing to undertake.

The Canadian airline and its “elves” are hitting the streets and airports across the country today to perform mini miracles.

“WestJet’s goal is to officially kick off the holiday season by performing 12,000 random acts of kindness in an effort to enrich the lives of everyone in the WestJet world,” said Richard Bartrem, WestJet vice-president of marketing and communications. “Everyone deserves the opportunity to be on the receiving end of a mini miracle.”

Winnipeg and Brandon are part of the kindness today, as WestJetters make stops at Siloam Mission, The Forks Market (Tower of Toys donation), D’arcy’s Animal Rescue, and Parkview Place Care Centre on Edmonton Street, where flowers and cards will be delivered.

Random acts of kindness will also be carried out at both James Armstrong Richardson Airport and the Brandon Airport. Some of the random deeds including giving away free hot beverages to shovelling sidewalks, helping elderly with groceries, purchasing tickets to community attractions, paying parking fees, handing out umbrellas, blankets and providing meals to charitable groups.

Street teams will be active in 13 cities and 38 airports, beginning in Halifax, where Santa will hop a WestJet Boeing 737 to make stops in Toronto, Calgary, Yellowknife and Vancouver.

The public can follow along on social media with the hashtag #WestJetChristmas, while also sharing their own random act of kindness.

Air Canada performed a miracle, too! They made 12,000 random pieces of luggage vanish without so much as a trace!
