The Street Cleaning High Impact Team (SCHIT) will become known as something else after a councillor pointed out the potentially embarrassing situation.

SCHIT has been set up by Cheshire West and Chester Council’s new ruling Labour administration to tackle ‘grot spots’ in the borough quickly.

The new team was set up as part of Labour’s ‘street care pledge’ in its election manifesto and will see a new four-person team set up to respond quickly to residents’ complaints about rubbish in their area.

Cllr Mark Henesy, cabinet member for environment and community, outlined the idea behind the new team at the last cabinet meeting.

He said: “We found through our own sources that one of the top priorities should be keeping our environment clean.

“As part of our manifesto we said we would have the street cleaning pledge.

“This is our way of trying to help the community to improve areas.

“We have decided to develop a team which can respond immediately to any spots.

“They will be delivered to the hot-spots when things are reported to us.”

Cllr Henesy did not, however, spot the problem and it was left to opposition member Cllr Lynn Riley to point out the obvious mistake.

Managing to keep a straight face, she said: “Street Care High Impact Team can be easily abbreviated.

“I do not think it could be particularly motivating for local residents to call a team with that name to their area.”

Cllr Brian Clarke, cabinet member for economic development and infrastructure, admitted the name should change.

He said: “I must admit we do need to change the name.”

The changes to bring in the new team were voted through by the cabinet.

You thought they would have noticed straightaway.

Having said that, it is a Labour initiative, so maybe not (and most Labour initiatives are **** anyway).

There is a Baptist college here, they were going to change their name to 'Faith University', until a member of the board thought it might not be good to have all their students wearing hoodies that said 'FU' on them.

Oh schit we didn't notice. Years ago I was one of the people that had a chance
to have input on the charter for the South Okanagan Boundary Labor Council.
Look at the letters for that one for a moment and it is still around by that name.
That was back around 1974 So names for things shortened down often come
under fire by those with a thin skin.
