July snowmobiler charged with impaired
THESSALON – A young Northern Ontario man proved on Saturday that driving your snowmobile down the street in July is a good way to get the attention of your neighbours. Unfortunately he also proved that doing so without a helmet and while impaired by alcohol is a good way to get the attention of police.
A 24-year-old Thessalon man is facing numerous charges after he caught everyone’s attention on Saturday, July 4 driving his snowmobile down the streets of his hometown.
The OPP received the call at about 2:30 p.m. of a man “whipping down the street” on his snowmobile with a passenger on the back, neither of them wearing a helmet. On the scene neighbours quickly flagged down the officers pointing out where the 1988 Skidoo Safari was driven including on River and Main streets in Thessalon.
It didn’t take long to locate the suspect and arrest him, apparently at his home where no party of any sort seemed to be happening.
Charges laid include: Impaired operation of a motor vehicle; Having over 80 mg of alcohol concentration in his blood stream, Failing to wear proper helmet; Drive with no insurance; Drive along highway-no licence; and, Fail to notify change of address.
He was eventually released from custody with an Oct. 1 court date.
