It won over a decade ago. Mackay didnt really do anything after Harper won the leadership.

As for him leaving, Im only mildly surprised. The guy has been in office nearly 20 years so it is about that time.

Perhaps polling is showing a Tory downturn. Those who are cabinet material will
be checking political winds. If you are a cabinet minister when the writ is dropped
and you lose or your party loses the election your pension is a whole lot less
