One man killed in Calgary shooting

CALGARY – One man was killed in a shooting in the community of Willow Park on Wednesday.

“Homicide detectives are now reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing a number of witnesses as part of their investigation,” said police in a release.

“At this point, it does not appear that the shooting was random.”

Police were called to Willow Park Centre located at 10325 Bonaventure Drive S.E. around 10:45 a.m.

One man found shot in the lobby of the building was rushed to hospital with unspecified injuries, and later died.

Police didn’t have any suspects in custody or any theories on a motive for the shooting as of 4 p.m. Duty Inspector Michael Watterston said an autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday, when the victim’s identity will be confirmed by the medical office.

Officers were able to complete a sweep of the building and determine the suspect wasn’t inside.

Two schools in the area were locked down as police investigated and searched for any further threats to public safety. The lockdown was later lifted at both schools; police say there’s no evidence that students were in danger.
