A senior Quebec cabinet minister says a "suspicious package" was received at his constituency office on Thursday.

In a statement sent out by the Conservative Party, Infrastructure Minister Denis Lebel says the Sûreté du Québec "has taken charge of the investigation," and has also informed the RCMP.

Lebel represents the riding of Roberval-Lac-Saint-Jean.

"These actions are taken very seriously," his statement continues.

"The safety of Canadians is a priority for our government. There can be no doubt that we will not be intimidated."

Radio Canada has reported that envelopes containing white powder were received by two other Conservative MPs in Quebec:
International Development Minister Christian Paradis and Minister of State for Small Business Maxime Bernier.
