Super Bowl XLIX: Lone wolf attacks big concern for law enforcement

GLENDALE, AZ - Lone wolf attacks are a big concern for law enforcement during Super Bowl XLIX.

Officials say they worry about terrorists who are not on their radar.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson says law enforcement monitors social media websites for threats as well as pay close attention to other terrorist attacks across the world.

Johnson visited Phoenix on Wednesday to review the security plan for the Super Bowl.

An excess of 4,000 law enforcement personnel have been brought in for the Super Bowl from city, state and federal levels.

More than two thousand cameras have been set up across the Valley to monitor any suspicious activity.

The cameras are routed into one operational hub in a command center, where information is shared with multiple agencies.

Johnson says there have been no credible threats yet. However, the public plays a key role is security for the Super Bowl.

Johnson talked about the DHS slogan called: “If You See Something, Say Something."

If citizens notice something odd or suspicious report it to law enforcement right away.

Hey, if this is the beginning of the end of sports then we can finally say terrorism is good for something.

Luckily everybody was safe during the SB.

But here in Gopherland there is a lone wolf that prowls around and folks are getting uneasy about him:

Lone Wolf Following Snowmobilers in Voyageurs National Park | KSTP TV - Minneapolis and St. Paul

Several miles of trail have been closed and rerouted at Voyageurs National Park due to a lone wolf that has been following snowmobilers.

Superintendent Mike Ward says the wolf has trailed or run alongside snowmobilers in three separate incidents over a 10-day period in the park's Ash River area. He says the wolf appears to be without a pack.

Park officials are trying to track the wolf and learn more about its behavior. Several segments of snowmobile trails have been closed where the wolf was spotted, about halfway between International Falls and Crane Lake.

Although the wolf hasn't attacked anyone, park officials and wolf experts say its behavior is strange because wolves usually stay away from humans.

Ward says park officials are taking precautions to protect visitors and the wolf.

Howl!
