I know some folks traveling from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, back
home to Regina, Sk, Canada last night. The origional flight was Air Transat
705.

air transat
Flight# TS705
Call Sign TSC705
(PUJ) Punta Cana International Airport
(YQR) Regina Intl, Regina, SK, CA
Dept. - Dec-31-2014

They where only in the air a few minutes when something happened and
nobody has been told anything just yet. This is what was suppose to
happen:

I saved the above screen shot about 5hrs after they where already on the
ground in Cayo Coco, Cuba. No flight tracking site acknowledged that they
had even left the Dominican Republic for a short flight to Cuba at that point.
Eventually I came up with this:

Nobody (the passengers) on the plane have been told what happened beyond
there being an issue with the plane. Cuba has sporadic internet service at best.
The plane was suppose to land in Regina about 11:50pm on Dec.31st, 2014 but
didn't make it here. Now it (a different aircraft?) should land in Regina about
6:30pm on Jan.1st, 2015.

I know there are both current and former pilots here at Canadian Content Forums.
Does anyone here know of a route to find out more information on New Years Day
regarding this goat rodeo?

Looks like they kept over land as much as possible since shortly after
take off from Punta Cana. I've gotten a few texts (Cell service along
with Internet in Cuba aren't great) & they're OK, but just don't know
what happened.

I believe I learned of their continued flight plans several hours before
they did, from my living-room at home, but I could be wrong.

Experiences some of our European friends have had with Air Transat suggests it could be anything. One flight we know of from Vancouver to Frankfurt stopped over in Montreal for an engine swap.

Was Obama anywhere near?

Have you tried the airlines website?

The Sunwing site knows (or states) nothing last time I checked &
it is New Years Day also.....

Obama is golfing in Hawaii, but the plane did skirt above-around the
Naval Base the USA has in Cuba. Most likely a coincidence though
I did check its exact location out of curiosity.

Check this website out showing the planes in the air.. zoom out on the map.. LOL

I spent much of last night on that site and several others. Was looking
for a travelers blog with more information but no luck there either.

Holy Crap remind me to never fly with them not only do they disappear they don't
tell anyone where they are or what is happening. At least Air Canada will tell you
you are not going to be flying right now but they know where the hell their planes
are let us know the outcome Ron

so Ron....as it stands now the whole thing is just a mystery is that right?

Yep. Shines a light on how planes disappear though.

Will do. The Sunwing 'Hotline' is just a recorded message stating
their office hours, and instructing one to call back when they're
open. No option to even leave a message. There is a form that
can be filled out on-line for inquiries though....

Pretty much the same thing with Air Transat (North America) except that
one can leave a message. No bodies manning the phones New Years
Day.
