EDMONTON - Police have confirmed the deaths of six adults and two young children in what Chief Ron Knecht called a "senseless mass murder."

Knecht told a news conference Tuesday that the victims included a woman found Monday night by officers responding to a weapons complaint at a south Edmonton home.

The bodies of three more women, two men, a boy and a girl were discovered a few hours later at a northeast home where officers had checked on reports of a "suicidal male" earlier in the evening.

None of the victims was identified, but Knecht said the public was not in danger.

"This series of events are not believed to be random acts and there is no risk to the broad public. These events do not appear to be gang-related, but rather tragic incidents of domestic violence."

A man matching the description of the suicidal male was found dead in a restaurant in the Edmonton bedroom community of Fort Saskatchewan on Tuesday morning, Knecht said.

"It was established that a restaurant in that location was related to the suicidal male sought in the second homicide location," the chief said.

"This morning ... RCMP were able to establish that a male was found deceased at the restaurant location from what appeared to be an apparent suicide."

Knecht went on to confirm that the man found dead in the restaurant "is in fact the same male that police have been attempting to locate since 8:28 p.m. (Monday)."

"Our homicide investigators have established associations and linkages between these homicides."
The investigation is complex and fluid at this point, he added.

My wife and I were at the scene where they found the guy dead from suicide in Fort Saskatchewan this afternoon. We had no idea what it was about, so were we ever surprised when we got home.

Are you okay? We could para-drop some counselors to help you deal with the trauma.

Piggy-backing them in on an ICBM will be much faster

Investigators say a gun used in a mass murder in Alberta was stolen in Surrey.

Police say six adults and two young children were found dead at a home in Edmonton on Monday.

Officers in Edmonton say the nine-millimetre handgun used to kill them was a registered weapon and was reported stolen in Surrey in 2006.

Cpl. Bert Paquet of Surrey RCMP confirmed officers are looking at the file associated with the gun and will share their findings with the Edmonton Police Service.

Paquet declined to speak further as he did not want to comment on an Edmonton police investigation.

Again we are not going to keep guns out of the hands of criminals secondly we should
at least try to keep guns out of the hands of CRAZY people. Even that is a chore we do
not know when someone is going to slip over the edge. Going after legitimate gun
dealers in this case isn't an answer either. It is time to try to understand sometimes
there is no answer or immediate answer to some problems.

Canadian Gun laws at work.. keeping the gun out of law abiding hands, and putting them into the hands of criminals and murderers.

If you are law abiding you wont have a problem getting one. The original owner was and it wasnt the gun laws that took it away from him.
