maybe you didn't hear about this:

WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV)-- A decision on Nov. 14 from attorney general Eric Holder announced that the death penalty has been taken off the table for the four people charged with killing Waynesboro police officer, Kevin Quick.

This news has really shaken the Waynesboro community. They say death penalty or not, they want justice to be served for these four people; Daniel Mathis, Shantai Shelton, Mersadies Shelton, and Travis Bell. All of whom will be facing the possibility of life in prison for their alleged role in the killing of Quick.

Quick was reported missing on Feb. 1, 2014. After an extensive search, the 45-year-old Waynesboro reserve police officer was found dead in a wooded area in Goochland County.

According to a federal indictment, the people charged with carjacking, kidnapping, and killing Kevin Quick, are members of a street gang
with ties to "The Bloods."

A Valley neighbor who lives in Waynesboro has been following the case from the beginning, and says this news has saddened the entire community.

"I think justice needs to be served and I think the people who committed the crime need to pay for the crime, but us deciding who lives and who dies that's not alright either," said Scott McDevitt, a Waynesboro neighbor.

Moving forward, the alleged killers are awaiting trial which is set to begin May 4, 2015.
