Disillusioned British jihadists stuck in Turkey because they are too scared to come back to UK

As many as 100 British jihadists are believed to be stranded in Turkey because they are too scared to return to the UK after leaving Islamic State militants.

Many of the disillusioned fighters are seeking to travel to countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh where their parents have roots because they fear imprisonment if they come back to Britain.

The jihadists are seeking an exit strategy from Syrian cities including Aleppo and Raqqa after becoming frustrated that they were fighting rival rebel factions as opposed to forces loyal to the country's President, Bashar Al-Assad, the Sunday Times reported.

A Whitehall official told the newspaper: “We understand there’s around 100 British jihadists who are waiting in limbo in Turkey before they can make their way to countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh and Algeria — countries where their parents were born and where they have the family support they need to settle in.

“The choices for these jihadists have become very limited — they don’t want to return to Syria because they would most likely be killed for defecting and they can’t come back to Britain without the prospect of being locked up.”

Around 500 Brits are believed to have travelled to Syria to fight for the brutal Islamic State terror group, the government estimates.

IS militants have been responsible for the brutal murders of two British citizens, Alan Henning and David Haines, prompting Briton to join air strikes against them in Iraq.

Professor Peter Neumann who works at King’s College London's International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence has previously suggested British jihadists fighting in Syria want to return to the UK.

He said: "The people we have been talking to … want to quit but feel trapped because all the Government is talking about is locking them up for 30 years."

Rami Abdelrahman, director of the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told The Sunday Times his organisation knew of at least 40 British jihadists in Turkey.

That's nice to hear. Sort of. It would be a better read if Pakistan,Bangledesh and Algeria also threatened to imprison them.

They dont exactly have great legal systems in those three countries. Not exactly the most stable places either.

By the looks of things the UK isnt doing that. Those folks can still return but would be locked up if they did. Id be for following that policy.

MI6 or whoever should get them and brainswash them so they have a better direction when mixing in with the general public.

Doesn't their training teach them how to open doors that aren't normally locked? Not dressing like the photo would help but then again modify the style just abit and they could enter by saying they had to dress like this because of the harsh Islamic laws they are under. Saw it in a vid not long ago, women have to wear face masks (and be accompanied by 'big brother') but if you join ISIS on your own you get to wear the tighter fitting ski-mask version, . . . and some cool white runners.
Come to think of it isn't that how the leader of ISIS got to where he is, 4 years of being under Dr. Sam's control and the first thing he does is run away and create a super terrorist organization, makes you sit on the edge of your seat waiting for Phase II or whatever they call it. If ISIS is as good as they say then the lads have already been turned and they are on their first mission, after a quick trip home for a cup of tea with mom first.

What would that be in real numbers, 10?

The minister told the National Post his department had also revoked the passports of several Canadians who had not yet left the country but who had intended to travel to the volatile region to enlist as foreign fighters.

He would not disclose the number of passports Citizenship and Immigration Canada had revoked over the conflict but said there were “multiple cases.” The government says about 30 Canadians are with extremist groups in Syria and 130 are active elsewhere.

Why? Everyone's happy. They self-identify as terrorist scumbags and go off to live in paradise under sharia law, and we're rid of them. Win-win.

I agree. Revoke Canadian citizen ship and it's done and dusted.

First let them leave then revoke the passport so they cannot return. We don't need
people like this in our midst. Again any family that gives them money or safe harbor
should also lose their citizenship and be deported to the lovely confines of the Islamic
World.
I point out Islam is not just for Arabs they come in all colors in all countries some are
great people and go about their lives like the rest of us. Then there are those who are
more volatile and espouse fundamentalist views that promote a way of life that in is
contradiction to our way of life and we have to deal with these cases.

Never mind locking them up if they come back to Britain. They shouldn't be allowed back into Britain in the first place. They can live in that lovely Islamic Caliphate that they are desperately trying to set up in Iraq and Syria. If their Caliphate is so great why would they want to leave it and come back here?

Easy for you to say as you must have got back in before the gate slammed shut. How many did you know by first name? How many meals did you have with them?

The flag material isn't made locally, track down who is buying a lot of black silk. (I would use hemp but that is another thread)

Then include the ones who say something should be done to fix the area and the 'right side' can 'get er' done'. 6 decades and counting??? not real speedy for the 'bestest, fastest people on the planet'.

And what of those born here? You cant strip those people of citizenship. Or the people who have been here for generations. Im from Timmins, the guy who left there to fight in Syria was born here and his family were french Canadian and had been here for quite a long time. This is something theoretically anyone can join. Where do you deport people who were born here and have been here for generations?
