Mom admitted to suffocating her children: Police

A Maryland mother has admitted she suffocated her two young children with plastic bags on the weekend, police say.
Officers were called to a home in Cheverly, located just east of Washington, D.C., at 2:15 a.m. Sunday morning.
"Both victims were found to be in distress and experiencing significant difficulty breathing," Maj. Cesar Pacheco told a press conference.
One-year-old Ayden Spoon and three-year-old Kayla Thompson were flown to a children's hospital but both succumbed to their injuries.
"While at the scene, officers located evidence of foul play that was readily apparent in the home and the children's mother was detained," Pacheco said.
When asked what evidence, Pacheco said, "There were bags that were placed over the children's heads."
Pacheco said they are still trying to determine a motive, however the mother, Sonya Spoon, "provided a very detailed statement implicating her involvement in the death of her children."
Spoon, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder.
