Rocket fired from Gaza into S. Israel hours before 3-day ceasefire expiry
A rocket landed in southern Israel two hours before the end of a temporary cease-fire agreed between Hamas and Israel authorities, police said. The fire comes as talks between the two sides in Egypt stalled on Wednesday.
“Gaza terrorists have breached the ceasefire and launched a rocket at Israel, hitting the Hof Ashkelon regional council,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement.
Police spokeswoman Luba Samri told AP that a rocket landed Wednesday in an open area causing no damage or injuries.

According to Haaretz newspaper, sirens also sounded in Hof Ashkelon, Shafir, Lakhish, and Yoav Regional Councils.
Egypt has been a mediator in the talks between the two sides, meeting separately with each party, as Hamas rejects Israel's right to exist and Israel regards the group as a terrorist organization.
On Sunday, the two sides agreed to a new 72-hour ceasefire to make time to reach an agreement on a permanent truce. This ceasefire was just expiring when the IDF reported firing from the Gaza Strip.
Talks in Cairo were reportedly stalled and Palestinian delegates were prepared to leave, a Hamas website said as cited by Reuters.
“We have finished talks today without any agreement. More work needs to be done to have a better deal,” a Hamas official said on condition of anonymity.
“We are deliberating internally over an offer to extend the ceasefire,” the official added.
