MISSOULA, Mont. A freight train derailed about 10 miles west of Alberton, sending three cars carrying three aircraft fuselages down a steep embankment and into the Clark Fork River.
Montana Rail Link spokeswoman Lynda Frost says 19 cars from a westbound train derailed at about 4 p.m. Thursday. No injuries were reported and the cause of the derailment is under investigation.
Thirteen cars were carrying aircraft components, soybeans and denatured alcohol, while half a dozen were empty. Frost said no alcohol leaked and no soybeans spilled, but three cars with aircraft fuselages went into the river.
The 737 fuselages were built by Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita, Aviation Week reported. Frost says the components were headed to the Boeing factory in Renton, Washington.
