Canada is marking the end of its participation in the Afghanistan war Tuesday as the last soldiers returned home from a mission that spanned 12 years.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Governor General David Johnston and senior military brass gathered at the Ottawa airport to welcome home 84 Canadian Armed Forces members. Mr. Harper said May 9 would be designated by Royal Proclamation a day of commemoration of the end of the Afghan mission.
