What is causing a huge spike in earthquakes in Oklahoma?

A dramatic uptick in earthquakes has been shaking central Oklahoma this year, continuing a recent trend of unusually high earthquake activity in the state and leading scientists to speculate about a possible link to oil and gas production there.
The US Geological Survey found that from 1975 to 2008, central Oklahoma experienced one to three 3.0-magnitude earthquakes a year, compared with an average of forty per year from 2009 to 2013. And it looks like that number is going to get bigger. Its only February, and the state has already logged more than twenty-five quakes of 3.0-magnitude or larger this year, and more than 150 total quakes (external - login to view) in the past week alone.

Shakin' All Over.... I love the way they recorded it - amps moved around a single mike to get the right mix and released raw.

Earth shaking....

The Oklahoma earthquakes are caused by climate change, fracking in Blackpool, public school "toffs" and the Tories.

Or so the British Left would have you believe.

Why does mining never cause earthquakes but fracking supposedly does (according to the anti-fracking enviroMentalists)?

Funny how Wally hates the current government with such blindness. The government agrees with the corporate findings on fracking.

Same basic story was trotted out a while ago about a town in Texas. Fracking is the culprit there too. If you believe the article.

One difference. Fracking and its consequences to the environment are real.

Can't possibly have anything to do with fracturing the Earth's crust? No. Humans couldn't be that stupid. We have University degrees taking care of business after all.
