Well, I guess it depends on if you believe her story.

Sounds plausible- the charge is 2nd degree, so she had no intention of deliberately "deep sixing" him.

She was found guilty of manslaughter so will likely be on parole in 16 months.

2nd degree murder would still mean that they thought she intentionally killed him, just not that it was planned in advance(or one of the other criteria such as killing him during the commission of another specified crime).
