It's not beyond the realms of possibilty that the mammoth may not be extinct and it is still alive and well in some remote areas where humans hardly tread.

Look at the coelacanth. For centuries that was thought to have become extinct in the Late Cretaceous Period (100.5 to 66 million years ago) until a living one was found off the east coast of South Africa in 1938.

Many people take scientists' words for gospel, but scientists are often wrong and many things we think are true in 2013 will be proven to be not true after all by 2023 (I learnt that on a recent episode of QI).
