Two years ago, Polaris Industries Inc. (NYSE: PII) acquired the oldest U.S. motorcycle brand, Indian. The goal? Restore Indian to its pre-World War II glory days, when the Indian Chief and Indian Scout (both highly collectible today) traversed America’s roads.
Based in Medina, Minn., Polaris (which had revenues of $3.2 billion in 2012) owns Victory Motorcycles and designs and manufactures snowmobiles, ATVs and hybrid vehicles. Its first new bike, the 2014 Indian Chief, debuted this month at the famed Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota.
