That's pretty emotional.

Probably not the smartest move to make from a legal perspective but definitely the best way to begin to be able to live with yourself after taking the life of another.

I suppose that the defense would say that his judgment was impaired when he made the confession.
haha....maybe

I think in the long run people will understand that he "gets it". He murdered someone when he got behind the wheel drunk.

He has a conscience, that's good to know. Right off I'm already far less worried of what he will do when he completes whatever sentence is imposed upon him. His lesson has already been learned.

For those with a conscience, the hardest person to forgive is yourself.

Possible sentence for this.

Franklin County prosecutor Ron O'Brien on Thursday said Cordle was a suspect in the deadly crash but hadn't been charged. O'Brien said he saw the video on Wednesday and downloaded a copy onto a CD as evidence. He said he'll ask a grand jury to indict Cordle for aggravated vehicular homicide with an alcohol specification, a charge that carries a maximum of eight years in prison upon conviction.

the eight years will feel easy compared to having to reconcile the murder with himself... I wish him luck he obviously fully understands the big picture.

it's all legalize to me, been way too many years since I have taken any law courses and will be a decade before I can go back to school for free but when I do, I am thinking some law courses will be on the docket.
when you finish getting your law credits, you could change your screen name to sue. ;)

Charges Filed Against Driver Who Confessed To Fatal OVI Crash

A 22-year-old man has been officially charged in connection with a drunken driving wrong-way crash that killed a man.

Matthew Cordle, of Powell, was indicted for one count aggravated vehicular homicide and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Cordle turned himself in at the Franklin County Jail at about 12:30 p.m. Monday.

Cordle is accused of driving the wrong way on Interstate 670 near 3rd Street on June 22, 2013 at about 2:45 a.m.

Cordle crashed head on into a vehicle driven by 61-year-old Vincent Canzani, who died after the crash.

The indictment alleges that Cordle had a blood alcohol level of .191 at the time of the crash.

Last week Cordle confessed in a video posted online that he was to blame for the wrong way crash that occurred after he had spent the night drinking.

That's as it should be.

It's good that he's accepting responsibility and that he feels remorseful, that should count in his favour when it comes to sentencing, in my opinion. But simply being sorry is not sufficient when you've ended someone's life. He undertook an action in a condition that was a huge gamble and risk and another person paid the price for that risk, the ultimate price. He needs to pay some kind of penance for that.

Ohio man who posted video on drunk driving death gets 6.5 years

CLEVELAND - A 22-year-old Ohio man who confessed in an online video to killing a man in a drunken driving crash was sentenced on Wednesday to 6-1/2 years in prison.
Matthew Cordle, who lives in the Columbus suburb of Dublin, Ohio, had pleaded guilty on Sept. 18 to aggravated vehicular homicide and driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol at the time of the wrong-way highway crash that killed Vincent Canzani, 61, in June.
He had faced up to 8-1/2 years in prison at his sentencing before Franklin County Judge David Fais.
"I'm so sorry for the pain I have caused you," Cordle said before he was sentenced in the courtroom where Canzani's family sat. "It should have been me who died, the guilty party."
The case gained national attention after the posting of Cordle's 3-1/2-minute video confession titled "I killed a man" in which he admitted to drinking until he blacked out and promised to plead guilty to the charges against him.
Cordle admitted that he tried to drive 20 miles to his home on June 22 after four hours of heavy drinking and was driving the wrong way on a highway off-ramp when his truck hit Canzani's vehicle.
Prosecutors had sought an eight-year sentence for Cordle, whose blood alcohol content was more than twice Ohio's 0.08 limit. Defence attorneys asked for a shorter sentence, saying he was not a risk to re-offend and had no prior criminal record.

40 years ago what he did (the impaired driving) was socially acceptable and I did it as much or more than most people, but I was lucky and no one got hurt and I never got charged with anything, but one day I decided if something tragic were to happen I'd never be able to live with myself so I quit doing it. In the flash of an eye and otherwise upstanding law abiding citizen can become a criminal and that is very sad and such a waste, not to mention the waste caused by any damage or harm caused.
