The Alberta gov't said it will provide funding for flood relief to the victims, BUT, If they stay where they are, or don't do anything to mitigate the flood hazard in the future, next ime, they will get squat. This bugs me. Why is the home owner on the hook for all this, while the guy that developed the land in that area, and the politician that approved the development, are off the hook scott free? Records need to be looked at. Just now, the Premier wants to table legislation to forbid development in such areas, that's a step in the right direction, just too many years too late. I just think the developer(s) need to be held accountable, along with the person(s) who approved it all.

If you are smart enough to check for wrecks on a vehicle you buy, checking flood chances for a much higher expense makes sense. You sound very socialist. The home owner is on the hook for stupidity.

Easiest thing would be to check to see if the insurance company will sell you flood insurance, if the answer is no, then you take your chance and don't expect the tax payer to bail you out when you lose.
