This is from a book written by a woman placed into an arranged marriage in Britain. Her mother-in-law decided to kill one of her daugter's-in-law because the girl refused to follow traditional Sikh behavior and it was considered to bring shame to the family. Such is the influence of culture. She was taken to India, drugged and strangled to death.

The police ignored tips to Crime Stoppers and a letter telling all.

It is disturbing and I can't understand how her family could report it to the police and then allow her to go back into the home where they obviously knew she had told on them.

It's a long read but interesting if you have some time to spare.
