I was driving in comox a few years ago, approaching a crosswalk, had to stop, as a deer stepped off of the

curb, and crossed perfectly inside the painted lines. It was no different than stopping for a person,

she crossed as though she new exactly what she was doing, 'I wonder'.

We see a lot of wildlife in town here. The most common are deer but black bears are common too and occasionally moose. Our "Town Deer" are certainly tame and the survivors are pretty street smart, waiting for traffic to clear before crossing. Just wish the kids and dogs were as well trained! Yesterday, I had to make an emergency stop on our street as a 10-year old whipped across the road in front of me on his bike.

There are a few deer that are more street savvy than most people. There is a doe has ben teaching her fawns how to cross the 4 lane stretch about a klick from our place. First couple of times I thought it was my imagination but she very carefully watches both ways and if she can see or hear a car from either direction she just stands there and waits.
