Fox News Channel’s coverage of the bombing at the Boston Marathon last week propelled the network to the top of the cable rankings for the first time in nearly a decade. In both total day and primetime for the week of April 15-April 21, the News Corp-owned news network pulled ahead of usually top-ranked USA Network. Excluding election coverage last year, the last time Fox News was in the top position was August 2005, when Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. In primetime, FNC garnered 2.874 million viewers on average for the week compared with No. 2 USA’s 2.621 million. CNN also climbed the cable ladder to finish No. 3 with 1.985 million viewers overall on average. History Channel was in fourth with 1.937 million viewers and A&E was fifth with 1.928 million.

Fox is getting rid of some of it real right wingers Palin and so on that might give them
some credibility. It will be a while before they are viewed as main stream news though.
Ratings are a funny thing, people do switch around and CNN is going through a few
changes as well. Yes the media outlets made some mistakes but there is a different
dynamic here. FOX, CNN and others reported inaccurate news trying to beat the rough
blog and social media crowd and that is a mistake.
Radio and TV ratings are somewhat suspect anyway there are so many layers to it.
Age, sex of respondents and other categories that often confuse the numbers. Does that
mean they were first in women, those thirty and over or over fifty or younger? These all
enter into a rating. First over all means little. You could be first in one category and weaker
in the rest but still win overall. The sponsors care about twenty five to fifty and if you don't
hold that group over all means nothing. How do I know? As a former broadcaster one
lived or died by the book as they called it. Lose and you could lose your job. I know the
scene quite well.

What the vested interests attempt to do is pigeon hole the competitors. Only when the
network itself goes over the edge does a general label apply. Fox did go beyond the
norm at one time as they were trying to capture a specific group in society at the over
all expense of the rest. It was based on a theory that all the AM Open line listeners
were right wing. The FOX network is trying to shed that image to some degree or tone
it down. They were the voice for the right and the right lost the election.
As for the ratings Yes you can win over all but if you don't win the right age demographics
individually the ones that count you lose revenue.
You might have the teens, the old people and some of the middle giving you an over all win.
However, the age group from 25 to fifty five broken up into a few categories is the one you
want. Women 25 to 35 is the prime target actually men in the same group not as important.
The reason consumer decisions and who does the buying.
It is not as easy as saying oh look a win overall it means nothing in the ratings industry,
Those making program and industry buying are looking as specific groups and sets of numbers
Ratings are not about numbers they are about specific demographics and MONEY

In actual fact, Fox News outdraws ALL of the "Mainstream" news networks, including those that broadcast over the air.

It is also the most trusted news agency in the USA, by far and away. Ultra liberals simply can't stand them, because they tell the truth, and don't follow the liberal fantasy!

Most of your posts are right in line with FOX. Except for your bizarre rants against Republicans. You'd be considered far right here DG.

It's because they're 'fair and balanced'.
