Venezuela's Hugo Chavez said to suffer 'complications'

I wish Hugo and Castro would both kick the bucket so we can have a big party to celebrate... woOt!!

CARACAS, Venezuela — Hugo Chavez has suffered "new complications" after his cancer surgery in Cuba, his vice president said Sunday, describing the Venezuelan leader's condition as delicate.

Vice President Nicolas Maduro did not give details about the complications, which he said came amid a respiratory infection. Maduro spoke in a televised address from Cuba.

Maduro arrived Saturday in Havana on a sudden trip to visit Chavez. He said Sunday that he had met with Chavez and he "referred to these complications."

"Thanks to his physical and spiritual strength, Comandante Chavez is facing this difficult situation," Maduro said, reading from a prepared statement.

"The president gave us precise instructions so that, after finishing the visit, we would tell the [Venezuelan] people about his current health condition," Maduro said. "President Chavez's state of health continues to be delicate, with complications that are being attended to, in a process not without risks."

The vice president spoke with a solemn expression alongside Chavez's eldest daughter, Rosa, and son-in-law, Jorge Arreaza, as well as Atty. Gen. Cilia Flores.

Maduro said he had met several times with Chavez's medical team and relatives. He said he would remain in Havana "for the coming hours" but didn't specify how long.

The Venezuelan leader has not been seen or heard from since undergoing his fourth cancer-related surgery Dec. 11, and government officials have said he might not return in time for his scheduled Jan. 10 inauguration for a new six-year term. If he were to die before being sworn in, a special election would be held to replace him.

The Castro I believe you're referring to stepped down a few years ago, Fidel
passed the baton to his younger brother Raul (who is also in his 80's). Fidel is
fading into the sunset.

Before Fidel stepped down, all you'd hear in Cuba was Spanish music, and after,
all you hear is Top 40 pop like everywhere else. The times are changing.

Your life will drastically be altered and worthy of celebration in what way?

Certainly, it will effect many people... particularity on my wife's side of the family, for me.

If you have any Florida property, and you see a hundred thousand exiled Cubans returning home.. it might effect property values. You'll be able to purchased some really, really cheap condos for winter vacation. ;)

...as did Russia.

The people should be free, not repressed or living under a dedicator.. "All peoples have the right of self-determination..."

I thought you said she was Mexican?

She is... nonetheless she has relatives throughout South America and a cousin who is a doctor in Cuba. ChuCho

Her relatives are from Cuba, Venezuela, Brazil... also my friends are from Guatemala and co-workers from Columbia.

Nevertheless, you jumped past the statement; "All peoples have the right of self-determination..."

These are banana republics who are run by murderous tyrants.

Petros, could you please rent the movie Salvador.

"Salvadoran General Cleared for Deportation over 1980 Murders of U.S. Nuns

A former El Salvador defense minister accused of murder and torture has been cleared for deportation from the United States. In a landmark decision, a Florida immigration judge ruled Thursday that General Carlos Eugenio Vides Casanova can be sent back to El Salvador for his role in the notorious killings of four U.S. churchwomen in 1980. It is the first time an immigration judge has ruled a top-ranking foreign military leader can be deported for committing abuses under a 2004 law intended to bar human rights violators from U.S. soil. It is also the first time General Vides has been held responsible for the churchwomen’s deaths in a court of law. General Vides was a close U.S. government ally during his stint as defense minister for the Salvadoran junta between 1983 and 1989. The churchwomen’s families have fought for years to hold him and other U.S.-backed Salvadoran officials responsible for the deaths. Among them was Bill Ford, who waged a long-term battle for justice in the murder of his sister, Ita Ford, before his death in 2008. In response to the ruling, Bill Ford’s son, Bill Ford, Jr., said, "Since the women were killed, my father made this the single purpose of his life. I’m sure he knows and is well pleased that [General Vides] may no longer be able to live in this country to enjoy the fruits of his brutality."

As far as I can tell, half of Venezuela still supports Chavez even if they are a bit grumpy about his economic policies and crime. A bit socialistic it may be but it's democratically that way.
As far as Cuba goes, Raul ain't like Fidel. Raul opened up Cuba to private business and Cuba has perked up quite a bit. Still needs work, though.
Boober is just infected with a bit of McCarthyism, so anything even slightly pinkish is to be demonized and condemned.

If Harper made the fuel 10 cents a gallon.. even the Liberals would vote for Harper. It's a poor country and Chavez took the country away from the elite and privatized everything.

In the sense that he stood up for the poor.. I give him credit. However, stealing, plundering from the rich to redistribute wealth.. sounds sorta like Obama lol

I guess he had too or end up like some of the Middle Eastern disposed leaders.

I'll agree to being infected with a bit of McCarthyism, but shying away from anything slightly pinkish.. talking about the opposite sex here, just the reverse.. extremely attacked.

btw, you ever watch the 1986 movie Salvador ??
