Mom of suspected school shooter -- first to die -- was avid gun enthusiast, friend says

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- The mother of the suspected Sandy Hook Elementary School gunman, herself slain at the outset of the murderous rampage, was an avid gun enthusiast who liked to take her sons to the shooting range to practice their marksmanship, a friend tells NBC News.

Dan Holmes, a local landscaper and a friend of Nancy Lanza, mother of 20-year-old suspected gunman Adam Lanza, said she also was a collector.

“She had a pretty extensive gun collection,” Holmes said. “She was a collector, she was pretty proud of that. She always mentioned that she really loved the act of shooting.”

Holmes recalled that she said she was able to “focus in” while shooting.

Federal officials tell NBC News that Adam Lanza took three weapons with him to the school – two pistols, a Glock and a Sig Sauer, and a Bushmaster .223-caliber semi-automatic assault-style rifle – all of which were registered to Nancy Lanza.

It is unclear whether all the guns were used in the attack. At a news briefing on Saturday, Chief Medical Examiner Dr. H. Wayne Carver II, who led the team that autopsied the victims, said, “All the (injuries) … I know of were caused by the rifle.”

The Associated Press reported that authorities investigating the school shooting later recovered additional weapons -- a Henry repeating rifle, an Enfield rifle and a shotgun. It was not clear where those weapons were found.

Holmes, Nancy Lanza’s friend, said the 47-year-old single mother also frequently talked about how she was worried about Adam.

Who was it bee-essing about shooting up radar cameras - possibly inciting some other nut to actually DO it?

Didn't they also brag about smuggling a weapon from the states into Canada and were still in possession of that illegal firearm?

...and what's that to do with pointing out the correlation between Liberalman's theory.. what he is suggesting remind me of what happen to the American Tobacco Companies.

It would not surprise me if someone tried this end run.. even the Obama administration.

If guns were banned, the weapons would not have been in the home and nutzo wouldn't have had access to them. Pretty simple.

the piece of ice you slip on and die from a head injury, isn't anyone's fault, although people will
scream and holler for blame to someone

the ball that hits you on the head and kills you, isn't anyone's fault, but can alert stadiums to
try to make the area safer, but it is always because people weren't paying attention to the game,
or just didn't see a ball coming from wherever, a ball game or a hockey game is a place to 'watch'
the game, but many use it to chit chat, text much of the time, so they have to bare responsibility
for their own safety.

the heart attack that kills you because you eat a 1/2 lb of bacon each day can't be blamed on companies
making bacon, people must be responsible for themselves, and if no one ate bacon, then no one would
make it, if no one could buy guns 'in a store', but had to jump through hoops before they could buy
one, then it was issued by government only, would certainly help, the children who died from the bullets 'he' fired, is 'his' fault, and will cause the security to tighten
up, till the schools look like jails, but those kids have to walk out of the school, and a gunman could
shoot them then, so there is always a way.

the mother who loves guns and collects them, knowing her son has some problems, and
doesn't address those problems has to take much of the blame, she was totally irresponsible,
and caught up in her own love of guns, and didn't have the intelligence to see the connection.

the country who's laws are far too wishy washy when it comes to guns, and have not addressed
the huge problems that has caused.

the lack of progress in addressing changes in the constitution concerning 'guns', especially
assault rifles.

the gun clubs, the gun stores, who obviously want to make lots of money, and don't have any
interest in anyone safety.

a country of over 300 million people, who have a good number of people with 'mental' handicaps
who are walking around like time bombs.

to say that guns don't kill anyone, people do is ridiculous, as the gun is made to be in the hands
of a person who will pull the trigger.

the fault lies in all places, and guns can't be thought of as innocent as well as any human who
uses that gun to kill anyone, it is a complex problem, and fault goes out to many.

If it is legal to sell guns, the gun store owner only has part of the responsibility, and the law
also has to bare blame, and to change the law many people with many different attitudes and control
over government share the blame.

Those who make millions from the manufacturing of guns and those who kill with same guns are all to
blame, that is why the problem will never stop, the government can only fully arm schools and other
institutions to prevent their own pupils, BUT a killer can find a way to kill, it can't be stopped
all together, it is impossible.

Even if the government banned all guns, guns would never dissapear, just as drugs never dissapear,
they will be smuggled into the country, to make money for the smugglers and manufacturers from other
parts of the world.

It is a form of russian roulette when it starts happening, and now the copycats are taking notice,
and it probably isn't over yet.

My husband says the media should 'not' put these stories all over the air, but that won't work either,
as the internet will tell us everything.

Of course people are responsible for all tragedies, except natural disasters, but it is an empty
statement to call the killing weapons innocent, they would not be made if they weren't going to
be used.

Why are companies allowed to manufacture 'any' weapon at all that is designed to kill people, and
that includes all weapons of war, our world is full on killing material, just waiting to be used,
and there are many who can't wait to use them, and, who also love war.

on and on it goes, sorry for the ramble, got it all off my chest, now, back to having fun with my
choc lab, just came home from retrieving session.

It's time to implement the "well regulated" part of the second ammendment.
