Not protected? Do you have any idea how many industries were shut down to save the maple forests which killed the Canadian manufacturing industry and set off an import boom and triggered today's resource export econnomy?

Maple syrup is what lead to the oilsands exploitation.

YOU are Canada's most valueable resource. Why have you let your ass get so huge? You not taking care of yourself is costing us a ****ing fortune. Half of every dollar we NEED to make is to pay to tend to the health of your lazy fat ass. The rest goes to pay for everything else. If Canadians weren't so ****ing fat and lazy we'd have alot more other things that produce sunshine and rainbows but lazy fat asses are were our money goes.

We have apparently oil under the St Lawrance river, but one thing is preventing the exploitation of that resource.....the eco-nuts and the "Clique du plateau mont royal".

A maple syrup heist in Quebec threatens price controls the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers has used for some time -- and the theft occurred a year ago. The investigation continues into how one well-known buyer acquired the stolen syrup.

Millions of gallons of maple syrup were stolen last year from a reserve that belonged to the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers.

If it sounds too bizarre to be true, it's not. The federation stores maple syrup and uses OPEC-style production and sales quotes to ensure a stable price for maple syrup.

The stolen syrup, worth about $18 million, is the largest agricultural theft, ever.

That said, Brendan Borrell, reporter for Bloomberg Businessweek, says maple syrup isn't the most financially important agricultural product in Quebec, but rather a component of national pride. So this theft hit many Canadians where it hurts.

Police in Quebec have another maple syrup heist on their hands.

First, there was the Great Maple Syrup Heist of 2011-2012, in which $18 million worth of the sweet sap went missing.

Then, earlier this week, thieves made off with 20,000 litres of Quebec's sweetest export, worth an estimated $150,000, from a storage facility near Montreal's Trudeau airport in Dorval.

Alfredo Monaco, a vice-president at Mexuscan Cargo, said the thieves broke into the warehouse and stole a shipping container loaded with 20 pallets of Kirkland brand one-litre bottles of syrup.

The syrup was destined for the Japanese market.

The company is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the syrup's recovery.

He said the "margins are thin" in the shipping business, and the theft has hurt the company's bottom line.

Monaco believes it will be difficult for thieves to unload the syrup because Kirkland is Costco's house brand.
