Man running across Canada for cancer charity arrested by Quebec police after using Trans-Canada Highway

QUEBEC — A man attempting to run across Canada for charity was arrested near Quebec City for taking his journey along the shoulder of the busy Trans-Canada Highway. In a further blow, Curtis Hargrove’s RV was vandalized by a group of teenagers after his arrest.

Hargrove, from Alberta, faces a charge of obstructing justice because he refused a police officer’s demand Monday that he get off the autoroute near St-Jean-Port-Joli, about 120 kilometres northeast of Quebec City.

The 23-year-old, who has been running about 50 kilometres a day since he left Newfoundland in early May, was taken to a police station in Quebec City and released a few hours later after signing a written promise not to run on the Trans-Canada in Quebec. He was given a court date for Sept. 21.

Oh man.

Next they'll be saying "Terry who?"

I have no problem with what the Police Officer did- He tried to deal with the runner- offered solutions- the guy refused- So he received a ticket. And as he stated- publicity.

Yes, it's clear we live in kinder gentler times.

So if you get herded into tight confines for protesting against the government or the living crap beaten out of you and arrested and charged while doing something as self-sacrificing as running to support cancer research, can we still call ourselves a civil society...it's starting to seem more and more like a police state.

... how very true ...

... canadian cops are a joke. this is just grandstanding. they'll do anything, including picking on innocent people like this, to get into the news ...

you must impress them the same way you impress us
... yeah, i'd say the attitude from the police is about the same as many of the posters on this site. in fact i've wondered if some of the posters here aren't government workers, they sure sound like it. a very sore bunch of babies ...

... like many of the posters here, the automatic response from the cops is to deny and lie ...

I don't even know the guy and why be such a dick, are you trying to prove my point about how ignorant this nation is becoming?

I was in my teens when Fox did his run and he was a hero, now someone is repeating it and he's a criminal? we really are becoming a joke as a nation.

Fox didn't run on any limited access highways - without police escort either....

... the pigs are nailing this guy because they're jealous -- he's competing with the phony cancer research charities they have going ...

... the runner wouldn't have been on the highway without prior government clearance. the cops screwed up ...

And of course you have proof of this- But you cannot share due to possible repercussions. Is that right?
