Certainly at the very least, Turkey could insist that the Syrian regime investigate who fired the shots and hand him over to Turkish police for trial; and should Syria refuse or drag it's feet on it, give it a deadline after which it's to be assumed that the Syrian government is accepting culpability, at which stage Turkey has the legitimate right to destroy that government.

That ought to give Assad an incentive to find out who did it. And of course if the one who did it was merely following orders, Turkey releases him and and for the next one up and so on. And of course to make sure Assad doesn't just pass the buck, Turkey expects a proper trial to ensure that the person handed to them did indeed pull the triger or at least ordered the attack.

Meanwhile, Turkish media have reported that at least five Syrian refugees have been wounded inside a camp on the Turkish side as clashes between the Syrian army and militants rage near Syria-Turkey border.

Some reports suggest that the refugees were hit by stray bullets from clashes between Syrian rebels and government troops.

The Syrian army has been fighting armed groups on the Lebanese and Turkish borders for the past months. Damascus has repeatedly accused Ankara of providing armed groups with weapons and letting them cross into Syria via the Turkish border.

The Syrian government has also confiscated large caches of weapons smuggled into Syria from Lebanon.

The Syrian army’s pursuit of rebels across the Turkish border has shed light on claims of rebel groups using refugee camps as safe havens. Reports suggest the Free Syrian Army could be treating them as springboards to launch incursions into Syria.
RT correspondent Sara Firth interviewed an anonymous source on the Syrian-Turkish border following the incident, who said that members of the Free Syrian Army were operating in the border region.

“They [Syrian rebels] cross the border, then they walk back again. Maybe the Turkish army finds some and takes them back to the camp, others just come by themselves. A lot of these people work with the Free Syrian Army,” he said.

He added that the Turkish government turns a blind eye to their movements and “lets them go back to fight.”

RT also spoke to a member of the Free Syrian Army operating in the area, who told her the opposition wanted to pressure the Turkish government into providing “arms and equipment from NATO.”

According to media reports, Syrian regime troops who were pursuing insurgents after they attacked a military checkpoint opened fire across the border, killing one and injuring several people.

Turkey has been highly critical of the Assad regime, and has previously been accused of harboring and training Syrian rebels in the south of the country close to the border region.

It is reasonable to say that if we cannot prove that it is actually Syrian forces who fired on the camp it's a different matter, and likewise if they fired defensively against rebels in Turkey. But then it would be up to Turkey to say that no rebels are to fight from the Turkish side of the border. If they want to fight, they go to Syria to fight.

Turkey and Lebanon are where NATO are supplying the rebels from.

Arrest warrants have been issued on Tuesday against three people on charges of smuggling arms to Syria.
Two Lebanese, Ahmed Mohammed M. and Husseim Kamil A., and a Palestinian, Zeinab Safi G., are included in the warrants, while investigations are underway to determine the full identity of their two accomplices, Walid Haidar and Issam Hatoum.
The three suspects were arrested in Aley.
They were found in possession of a number of light weapons, as well as rockets, worth $7,200.
They included eight rocket-propelled grenades, a thousand Kalashnikov rifle bullets, and 500 MLC rifle bullets.
The smugglers were carrying out their activity through Wadi Khaled in northern Lebanon and they have so far conducted four operations into Syria.
Smuggling weapons to Syria has increased in recent months in light of the eruption of the country’s revolt against the ruling regime.

There is a video [1] that could be loosely translated as "Terrorist Turkish border opening fire on the Syrian side" that pretty accurately sums up what's going on at the ultra-volatile geopolitical hotspot of the moment.

The voice over says, "This is the Syria-Turkey border, and this is an operation of the Free Syrian Army [FSA] ... The Gate [that would be the Syrian side of the border, housing the Gate checkpoint] is going to be seized."

What this means is that Turkey is sheltering the FSA right on the border, only a few meters - and not kilometers - away from Syrian territory. Way beyond hosting a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) command and control center in Iskenderun



for months now - a fact already reported by Asia Times Online - Turkey has now advanced right to the border, enabling a back-and-forth by heavily weaponized guerrillas/mercenaries to attack a sovereign state.

Imagine a similar scenario happening, say, at a Mexican-US border in Arizona or Texas.

Coming from the Republic of Alberta after taking a few hits I'd hammer them. What now, the Rebels never agreed to stop their weapons from firing, should the army back off and leave the civilians under the control of the rebels with their weapons? Anybody here even know an election is in the works, then what, if the result isn't to the liking of the West, it invasion time even thought Bahrain is having the army smash the civilians there and not a ****ing peep out of the media or anybody here. The Saudi elite are crashing from old age and not one ****ing election on the horizon. I can see the world having their heads up heir won asses, do I get to see a smaller example here every ****ing day. From what’s shown in the video it’s clear that the creators want to psychologically influence the Syrian first lady and her relatives. It contains explicit footage of injured and dying children, and tells her "these children could all be your children". It urges Mrs Assad to "stand up for peace", and asks "what happened to you, Asma?"

The creators of the clip and their backers failed to refer to armed terror gangs that have killed or injured thousands of Syrian armed forces as well as hundreds of civilians in the more than one year old crisis the same western countries have helped to inflict damages on the Arab country.
