SAN FRANCISCO — Current TV announced Friday it has fired Keith Olbermann and will replace him with former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer.

A statement from the network's founders Al Gore and Joel Hyatt said it had been founded "on the values of respect, openness, collegiality, and loyalty to our viewers. Unfortunately these values are no longer reflected in our relationship with Keith Olbermann and we have ended it."
The statement said Spitzer would take over Olbermann's 8:00pm ET time slot effective immediately, beginning Friday night.

It was unclear what caused Current to part ways with the brash TV host, who helped build up the MSNBC brand while serving as the chief evening news anchor at that network from 2003-2011.
The left-leaning network indicated that Olbermann had failed to honor the terms of his five-year, $50 million contract, according to The New York Times.
Current TV was launched in 2005.

Current has asserted that Olbermann missed 19 out of 41 working days in January and February. Then on Monday, Feb. 27, Olbermann asked for a vacation day on the following Monday, March 5, one day before the Super Tuesday GOP primaries. Olbermann was told that he could not have the day off, and if he took it, he would be in breach of contract. He took the day off. But he was on the air the following day for Current’s Super Tuesday coverage.

According to Mediaite, a source at Current TV said the former Countdown host went through 8 different car services while working at the network, complaining that the drivers “smelled” and “talked to him.”

Furthermore, though Olbermann’s $250,000 studio was built to his exact specifications, he allegedly refused to use the set when there were lighting problems back in December. Not only that, but he refused to let guest hosts use the elaborate studio.
