Keep the Beaver.. The Fur Trade built Canada!!.. They build dams and harvest trees.. Polar bears only became cuddly icons of insipid 'environmentally conscious' sentiments in the last 30 years.

Get rid of the beaver... what a maroon. The beaver is a perfect symbol for Canadians.

Why? Because we a bunch of pussies?

Because when the going gets tough, we're stronger pound for pound than most expect. When things get dire, we dig in and shine. We're industrious. No matter how comical people may find our attributes, they serve us well.

Oh, now you've gone and got all serious on us.

Of course this is just further indignity heaped upon the Canadian people by climate warming knuts. What kind of message does this send to our fellow humans, a huge blood thirsty animal that looks exactly like a snow drift with teeth. It does nothing but swim around eating tiny defenseless creatures when it's not at a dump eating garbage.

They make very nice fireside rugs for beaver lovers.

Lone Wolf and Coldstream have it right. Early Canada was all about the fur trade and the beaver was the most important fur bearing animal. It led to major expeditions of exploration and was instrumental in establishing the first contacts between Europeans and Aboriginal Canadians. In short without the beaver the creation of Canada would have been set back at least one or two hundred years. Magnificent as is the polar bear it has little historical significance. The beaver was originally chosen because the founders of Canada were well aware of the impact the beaver had on the development of Canada. Nicole Eaton needs a history lesson.

I don't know how Americans are going to stereotype Canada without the beaver.

So, Canada should keep it.

We should shave beavers and export them to establish better flood control in tropical regions.
