There's a few people on this forum that like to throw the word "racist" around. I wonder what they think of this.
I love the CBC primer on what's racist or not.
If people want to be racist, let them be racist. If you want to be dumb enough to dress like the KKK, then go for it.
The natural repercussions will follow, but we don't need to be (or at least I don't need to be) lectured by the media on what's racist or not. I'm sure we'll all find out who's touchy about what through our own experiences.
When it comes to Halloween, I'm touchy about a few things. Like: razor blades in apples, drugs in chocolate bars, and I'm sure others have other things they too are touchy about.
It used to be a lot of fun and such a real "goody" night. Homemade popcorn balls, candied apples, fudge, puffed wheat squares, and on and on. Now parents have to check everything before their kids can eat it. Homemade is a No No.
Years ago in the Okanagan, we had friends whose little little kids were given razor blade apples somewhere along their route. That's a far worse situation than a chosen costume for a night. One of my granddaughters is going as a Hippie! She thinks it's a big deal. Is she discriminating by dressing like that? We used to take soot from the lid of the kitchen stove and rub it on our face to look like dirty hoboes. Ha - might not have been hoboes but we were dirty!!!
