You know, earlier in the year I remember watching something on the CBC highlighting volunteers across this country. A lot of really cool people doing some really cool things all to help out others. One guy came to mind this morning when I read this article.
Don't recall his name off hand but he had emmigrated from a Central American country about 10 or 15 years ago. He settled in Alberta and he was a firefighter. Now back in his country of origin, all fire fighters are volunteers, they have inadequate equipment and absolutely no protective gear what so ever. So he started collecting used equipment and gear to send down there.
Hell, he even managed to find a way to ship a few decommissioned fire engines down there. That could not have been a simple task. This guy picked up the ball, took ownership of it, and ran with it. I'm sure he probably encountered more than a few problems along the way.
So I was thinking of that man this morning when I read the article.
I'm sure everyone involved had good intentions, I'd never presume that they didn't. But it seems to me that the ball was dropped and that everyone involved had some part in that. And, because of that, someones kind donation ended up at the bottom of a landfill. It's not the end of the world, but it is sad.
