He might also remind himself that Natural events are a no choice , while wars, killings, and other man determined destructiveness are a CHOICE. So it comes down to the choices mankind makes in regards to his planetary home.
Humanity has indeed made great strides in evolving from what we used to be like 1000 years ago, but we're not a perfect species and you can not expect us to magically fix all of our faults over night just because we can talk and walk upright. While what you say sounds wonderful and Utopian, it still takes time to rid ourselves of old habits, especially the ones that have been with us since written history (and even long before that)
Based on your reasoning, as soon as our children can figure out how to walk upright on their own two legs, we should expect them to do everything, slap a lunch box in their hands and send them off to the construction site to build a sky scraper, and do it perfectly.
We as a species are still growing, still learning and still trying to evolve from our long-term fears and ignorance over a number of things..... and yes indeed, the planet & nature will not wait for us to figure it out..... but we also can't just snap sh*t and correct our ways so easily.
Natural disasters and the like have been happening since the planet was formed..... and every so often these natural disasters start happening more often..... then they die down and go back to normal. This is a long term cycle of the planet.
Just in the past 100 years we have learned to improve our relations with people who have other religions, other races, other genders, other sexual preferences...... woman got the right to vote and work jobs men normally held...... gays are not only gaining more acceptence in society, but also the right to marry and have kids of their own...... and on and on.
Yes, none of the above are perfect and we still have a long way to go, but compare it all to say 200 or more years before, with witch burnings, slavery and the sort..... it's a hell of a lot better then it was.
We will eventually get to what you speak of..... but it will take time.
Whether we survive long enough to get to that point is the real question and honestly, we don't have a lot of control over that outcome.
