I just got mine today from China. Besides the disc covers being in Chiness everythign else is english and it only cost me a fraction of the price if I bought them here. Actually all 5 seasons from China cost me the same price as one season.

Anyhow just finishing Season 1, and I still can;t believe how well the whole story fits. I can't believe many Star Trek people do not give this show a chance. Unlike Star Trek where they try to connect the dots after slapping together an episode b5 knew where they were going form the pilot and it really shows. Very few problems in the story line the only one I can really find is some of the ships (like the narns) seem to not be the same from the first season to the last. Though I like the final version of the narn ships and the story behind them then the ugly looking ones in the first season.

The problem with b5 too in which I had seen almost every episode when it was on the air was you had to watch it from start to finish to fully understand what was happening and why, it's very hard to just jump into, like it is with Star trek, but worth watching from start to finish.

I think b5 beats everything for the developed story line though. My heart has always been with Star Trek TNG and DS9 but B5's storyline from start to finish is like playing a game of connect the dots. Things which happen in season 1 which didn't seem to be immportant are rehashed in season five and the movies, everything connects very nicely in a story which is all too human. TNG and star trek in general is like a socialist fairy tale, where humans have very few flaws. But in B5 Humans, are well very human, too human at times.

I know some loony lefties might try to say that B5 was more or less trying to copy things during the Bush admin because of how the government changes and what not, but you have to remember this story was writen mainly in the late 80's and early 90's and filmed largly during the Clinton admin. This is just a purely human sci fi story.

Battlestar Galactica, is alright from what I have seen of it. I have never gottien a chance to watch more then random shows and parts of movies though. To me it's a little too lone gun for me.

Babylon 5 is the best SCI FI show next to the new series of Battlestar Galactica.

I didn't watch enough Babylon 5 to know how good it really was, although I enjoyed the episodes I watched.

Farscape, to me, is the best scifi show of all time. The new Battlestar Galactica is great too.

by the seasons and the movies and watch them in order. I've never seen anything done so well before. B5 isn't the best show to just pop into a few episodes here and their. It's an epic story and even though the producers tried to make each story with stand alone quilities, Star Trek still mops the floor with B5 with Stand alone shows. But B5 kills all others for the epic storyline.

I'm thinking about buying season one of Space above and beyound. Though the show had concept problems it was alright but it's main draw back is that it was canceled it's first session and they never tied up the main story. I guess they were hoping for the show to be picked up for a second season. I remember watching it when it had orginally aired, so I don't know if I'd still like it now.

I enjoyed the original Star Trek series with Shatner and all. I have most episodes on tape. I watched The Next Generation and generally thought there was better acting but maybe it was just better writing. It always seemed to me that Johnathon Frakes was supposed to be the hero but he was upstaged by Patrick Stewart. I never got into the Voyager series for some reason so I don't have an opinion on it. I never watched Babylon 5 when it was on the tube, but I will soon. My son has found a place overseas where he can download it. I watched a couple episodes and they seemed to be well done.

It was an entertaining show, and I'm a scifi slut so I'll give anything a chance, but I had a hard time with the very expensive to train (in time and resources) pilots being used as grunts. Not much military sense in that.

Go to ebay and buy a Chiness version which comes with all 5 seasons. It will run you next to nothing. Maybe 100-120 tops with shipping included. Also watch the movies after you finish the seasons.

I've skipped the Pilot myself as I can remember it pretty well and remember it was pretty boring and has little to do with the bigger picture. Plus the few eliments which do have anything to do with the main plot are pretty much brought up during the seasons anyways.

As I said Star Trek is a kewl expanded universe but one which is not well planned out and the cannon of the universe is odd and always changing facts and well disagreeing with past episodes. Plus very few story archs last more then one episode. In B5 you have many story archs including the main one lasting the whole time. Star Trek has never done this and when they have tried to connect the dots it becomes extremely incoherant.

the funny thing with this B5 and DS9 is there is a fight which has been ongoing about the two shows because they have much of the same type of story archs. It is said the the producer of B5 went to parimount with the story and was rejected but they kept a manuscript (changed it a little into DS9) The story archs, or the main plot has many simularities.

Babylon 5's story line is better then DS9's. Babylon 5 had a strong story line from the begining to the end. DS9's was good but it was also lagging until the Dominion War..

ITN, did I mention....... thats just wrong.

I always thought D.Troy from TNG was the hottist Star Trek chick. Though she's getting so old now. She had the hottest curves!!!

The Dominion war is what saved DS9 in my books, though the Klingon war had it's moments as well.

But they say the B5 "bible" was used for DS9

If you are interested in looking this up a little go to the link below. If you watched both B5 and DS9 you should get some enjoyment from reading it.

B5 was the bible for all Sci Fi shows after it. The writing was the best, the way the whole 5 years was linked from the pilot episode..

Here's something Star Trek Fans may find funny..

I was drinking diet Dr Peper at my work station and almost spat up on the moniter when I saw that. Too good!!!!

Of course I agree with you Johnny Utah, with the fact that B5 is the best sci-fi out there. Besides the main and sub story archs, I think what makes B5 stand out is how really human it is. When you look at Star Trek, TNG for example, it truly is some kind of Communist world they live in. No money, no need, no wealth, no poor no conflic between humans and capitalism in a human being is seen as very strange and alien. where in B5 it is a lot more realistic to how humans interect with each other. I think which makes B5 stand out is how it truly captured the human being. The only thing human in Star Trek is the look. Also the problem with Star Trek is everyone in general, including the races seem to be generalized. In B5 there is more of a living world with individuels. Truly TNG is the communist vision for the future while B5 is the realistic vision of the future.

=-)

Yes, I kind of missed the connection to Zahn. Of course you are from Edmonchuck, that could explain things
