Guitar band Suede are to be crowned as a Godlike Genius at the NME Awards 2015 With Austin, Texas in London.

Suede, whom organisers have billed as "one of the most exciting guitar bands of all time", kick started the Brit-pop revolution of the 1990s and have had a ground breaking career spanning over 25 years.

Fans may be treated to a burst of their famed electric live show performances when they pick up the NME Godlike Genius Award at London's O2 Academy Brixton on February 18.

Suede frontman Brett Anderson said: "It's wonderful to be recognised, and it's great for us having been through lots of ups and downs in our career. It's been a real rollercoaster ride of extreme highs and lows, so to be honoured in this way 25 years after we got together is lovely, really."

Suede bassist Mat Osman is the brother of Pointless co-host Richard Osman.

Suede frontman Brett Anderson said it will be "wonderful to be recognised" when the band receives a Godlike Genius award at the NME awards.

Suede, whom organisers have billed as "one of the most exciting guitar bands of all time", kick started the Brit-pop revolution of the 1990s and have had a ground breaking career spanning over 25 years.

Fans may be treated to a burst of their famed electric live show performances when they pick up the NME Godlike Genius Award at London's O2 Academy Brixton on February 18.

The band has released six acclaimed albums, including three which have been chart toppers, and countless top 10 singles. They split in 2003 and then made a successful comeback in 2010.

The Clash, Paul Weller, The Cure, Manic Street Preachers, New Order & Joy Division, Dave Grohl, Noel Gallagher, Johnny Marr and Blondie are among the previous winners. The award is only handed out to true greats of the music world, according to the organisers.

NME editor Mike Williams said: "Suede fundamentally altered the course of alternative music in the 90s, tying disparate strands of influence into one definitive British sound. They found romance in squalor and beauty in self-destructive hedonism.

"They were the outsider gang everyone wanted to join and I'm delighted to announce them as the recipients of this year's NME Godlike Genius Award."

Music fans have cast hundreds of thousands of votes across 22 categories for the NME Awards 2015 With Austin, Texas.

Kasabian are leading the charge with eight nominations while Royal Blood and Jamie T follow closely with seven nominations each.

Singer Charli XCX, Royal Blood, Run The Jewels and The Vaccines are set to perform at the ceremony.
