Capt. Kirk on board the Millennium Falcon? Our geek brains just exploded.
William Shatner, Canadian national treasure and the man who gave us T. J. Hooker, Denny Crane and Capt. James T. Kirk, says he'd be up for a role in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, if director J. J. Abrams could find a way to fit him in.
"Send him a note!" an amused Shatner said at the suggestion that Abrams should find a part for him in the film, due out in December of next year.
Only slightly lower on the implausibility scale, Shatner also said he’d happily reprise his role as Capt. Kirk in the third film of the rebooted Star Trek franchise, hitting theatres in 2016. The first two movies were directed by Abrams.
"J.J.'s a buddy," said Shatner, but the trick would be for someone to “come up with an idea of how to put the aging, two-sizes-larger captain” in the movie.
Shatner couldn’t resist ribbing his friend Leonard Nimoy, who played an older version of Spock in 2009’s Star Trek and popped up briefly in last year’s Star Trek Into Darkness.
“I said to Leonard Nimoy when I saw him in the movie, ‘You know you’re old when you go back in time and you’re still old.’ ”
It would be a trickier proposition to bring Kirk back, though: the heroic captain was killed in 1994’s Star Trek: Generations, drawing his last breath with Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Capt. Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) by his side.
But hey, anything’s possible in the movies.
“If they could, I would be delighted,” said Shatner. “Oh my goodness, I’d jump at the chance.”
Shatner is set to appear at FanExpo Canada in Toronto later this month, along with Stewart and a bevy of other guests from the realms of sci-fi, fantasy and horror.

Shatner is the energizer bunny of Canadian actors. Good on you, Bill.

you're not washed-up and spit out until you're doing the walk-in tub commercials...there's still hope.

He did that whole line of bran commercials and came out the other side. (Note to self, not an appealing visual image).

He makes the whole "old guy kook" thing work for him. He's got a lot of life left in that schtick.

Having said that though, Captain Kirk on a Star Destroyer? Blasphemy!!!
