NB folk, what are those large towers outside Sussex?

I went to NB yesterday and returned today with about 90,000 salmon eggs that we will grow and use in our research trials and QC. Outside Sussex there are some massive square towers, one had small amounts of smoke/vapour puffing out, and I was curious what they might be?

I remember from social studies in grade 6 that potash was/is mined in the area, is that what I saw?

Yup, them's the new headframes for the new potash mine. The old ones nearby (1km away) are steel structures, these ones are poured concrete.

I worked there as a summer student many years ago, if I wasn't underground, at lunch time I'd walk up the stairs to the roof of the headframe (the steel one) and back down again. Fully dressed in steel toes etc, that was a pretty good leg workout.

I bet! Good view from up there I'm sure too.

It's a pretty area. That was actually my first time in that part of the province.
