The flaw with that logic is, the government DOES owe us medical care. Timely and effective medical care. We've paid for it. It's not a hand out. In these cases, they're failing to provide what they've already been paid for. I sure as heck wouldn't want to have to put my life on hold for two years while I wait for a new hip, new knee, or some other such thing. That's not fair. And it's further injury to many people's health to have to do that (lack of exercise over two years is a lot).
No the government does not owe us health care, we pay for it ourselves, it is called premiums. Some pay more because they are not useless and work, some get it free, because they won't work. Those are the ones who think the government and the whole godamn world owes them something. Most of those people that need these kinds of surgeries, (knee replacement, hip, etc) could use a diet first, (we know a guy who was told to lose weight or they will not operate), as most are obese, not overweight but fat. Kind of self inflicted, so they should pay, not the tax payer, the government never pays for anything, why people have this naive thought is beyond me.
My daughter could have an Indian status card, but she will not lower herself to the lever of dependant, or welfare bum. She does not need it for all the freebies, special prices (that these people do not even need) etc that the Indian gets, she is too proud, and wants to do it on her own. That is the way we do things in our family, on our own. I would not wait for any surgery either (although I do not forsee myself getting a hip replacement surgery I am not obese), if something did show (like a screwed up hip, or knees), up in later years it would more likely be caused by my years of gymnastics and dance, as my knees do bother me but only when it comes on to raining, and only in Canada do they bother me, winters. I would pay to go to the US for surgery, and I would not expect anyone else to pay for my decision. No one should.
take, take, take, that is all the greedy think about, and they never think of who really has to pay.

Most people do not realize that they are not the only one in the world, and certainly not the only one waiting for surgery, can't all be done at once. There are wait lines because there are more than just you in this world. We wait in line for lots of things, get over the me first attitude, and you may get rid of some of the whining.

Sad part is, they made it too much like insurance. In Ontario, it's the employer who pays the premiums. Sucks to have been on both ends of the spectrums - especially when you see the line-jumpers and the people who have a Health Card - but no legal reason to have it.

Woof!

Some employers pay the premiums, some pay half, and you pay half, it is the case most often, take a look at your cheques. My husband worked for the same company for years, and had an excellent benefits package, actually one of the best, they paid for perscriptions, glassess, etc, but upon closer examination of his cheque stub, he paid half and the company paid half, like pensions monies. Most employers never pay it all. Maybe in Ontario, but best look at a pay stub to be sure.

I don't get this... like I said, you paid for medical care. You don't think you deserve what you paid for? I do. I pay. I expect to get medical treatment when I need it, not because it's a hand out, but because I paid for it with my taxes and my premiums.
