A grocery store employee in Halifax found another potato with a nail in it as police in Atlantic Canada continue to investigate what they believe to be deliberate spud sabotage.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a recall last week for Farmer's Market and Strang's potatoes after three people found metal objects in potatoes sold at three different stores in Nova Scotia and P.E.I.
The agency said the recall was "triggered by an ongoing investigation into complaints of nails and needles which appear to have been inserted into potatoes."
A worker at a Halifax Atlantic Superstore was sorting through bags of recalled potatoes Saturday and found a nail in a spud.
There have been no reports of injuries associated with the potatoes, police said.
Last fall, police investigated nearly a dozen instances of sewing needles found in potatoes sold across Atlantic Canada. They suspect all the potatoes came from Linkletter Farms of Summerside, P.E.I., which voluntarily recalled its potatoes.
Those cases remain unsolved.
Atlantic Canada's investigation into food-tampering has expanded to Halifax after a grocery store employee found a nail in a recalled potato. Cases involving the discovery of sewing needles in P.E.I. potatoes (pictured) have so far gone unsolved. (RCMP Photo)
