Wire reportedly found in candy cane during Santa Claus parade
QMI Agency

A Newfoundland woman bit into a candy cane after a Santa Claus parade on Saturday and reported finding a small metal wire inside it.
The candy came from the Great Canadian Dollar Store in Bay Roberts, N.L. The chain has since pulled the Santa's Secrets-brand mini candy canes from the shelves at its five provincial locations.
District manager Doreen Samways said the candy canes are made in China, but were purchased through the supplier CTG Brands in Vaughan, Ont.
The woman who bit into the candy cane wasn't hurt, Samways said, and nobody else has reported any problems with the treats.
"And we've sold thousands," she said.
The woman brought the candy cane into the store to show the owners.
"We did take a picture of it and we did see it with our own eyes," Samways said.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency didn't immediately respond to QMI Agency's queries about the candy's availability nationwide.
CTG Brands was also not immediately available for comment.
