Police in northeastern Prince Edward Island say a beaver is "still at large" after it gnawed a tree so badly it fell and smashed a Quebec family's passing SUV on Saturday afternoon.
The parents in the front and their one- and two-year-olds in the back weren't injured when the tree fell and struck their SUV just as it was driving past on Route 16.
The Toyota Rav4 had significant damage to the roof, windshield and a cargo box mounted to the roof.
RCMP said a beaver had gnawed the tree just about all the way through. Several other large trees in the area that are still standing are in similar condition. Police said arrangements were made to have the other trees removed.
