Despite photos showing people getting up close to the bloated carcass of a blue whale on the beach in Trout River, N.L., there are concerns it's about to burst.
Mark Tsang, a wildlife photographer and group hike leader, posted photos of people checking out the carcass to the Wildland Tours Facebook page.
Town clerk Emily Butler told the Telegraph the town has been lobbying the provincial and federal governments for financial help to move the carcass, but have heard nothing back yet.
She said the 26-metre-long whale is "blowing up on the beach. It has gases trapped inside of it."
She said some businesses along the waterfront would like the carcass gone before tourist season.
Trout River is located on the west coast of the island.
Last year, a marine biologist at the National Museum of the Faroe Islands tried to cut open a sperm whale carcass with explosive results.
The video of the whale explosion went viral as soon as it hit the Internet.
"The animal was more than two days old when we took it so we knew there would be some pressure on the inside, but nothing like what happened," Mikkelse, who works at the National Museum of the Faroe Islands, told the Daily Mail.
The Faroe Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean north of the U.K.
