Too vague.......

Depends on the situation, the "atrocity" committed, the victims............

For example, the US servicemabn that shot a wounded man in a Mosque in Fallujah....NOT an atrocity IMHO, although the media ranted for weeks.

The Marines that raped and killed in Iraq? Done. Rat 'em out.

The two extremes....lots of room in the middle.

Believe me...there is no code of silence or any foolish things such as Code Reds. If you screw up or commit a crime there are plenty of Marines that will come forward. I am sure that stands for any branch. Do you think soldiers and Marines like when other comrades at arms do these things? Of course not.
