Your boss calls you in and gives you a big promotion and the use of a company car, for something you didn't actually do.
( N.B. You are a single parent of three and use public transport.)

....I'd tell my boss the truth

indeed, or else you could risk getting fired or demoted, and being honest can only give you brownie points.

That's actually happened to me, but I was the guy whose idea he took credit for- I set him up, phucked him over good and then quit.

A long time ago... I was working in a factory in Barrie Ontario, loading and unloading procucts from train cars and trucks...material handler...

I took the job because the it paid fairly well and didn't require a lot of "thought"....

At five minutes to five a specially constructed electric forklift truck stopped working...leaving a rail car sitting still loaded and unable to be unloaded.... the "mangager" the "shop foreman" assorted big-wigs from the office were running around having fits because CP charged by the hour for that car to sit on a siding and it was costing the company big bucks....(etc)

I went to one of the "suits" and said, "I can fix that towmotor for you and get the car unloaded but it will cost......"

As but a lowly "material handler" they were at first amused and then angered when the forklift company called back to say that their technicians were all busy and couldn't do anything to help out the situation until tomorrow.....

With crimson rising at the shoulders the office mavin who'd never had his hands dirtied by real work told me to go ahead and fix the machine... I told him I'd have to disassemble part of the motor unit to determine what type and size of fuses were needed to replace the ones that had blown. He told me to GET STARTED!

I replaced the fuses (another lowly material handler went to fetch back the replacement fuses) and had the machine merrily unloading the train car in about half an hour.

The"suit" then asked me what I wanted as remuneration for fixing the truck and getting things going.... I said..."Well a TowMotor technician is billed by the company at about a hundred dollars an hour, and since this took two hours...but I so enjoy working here at ABC Products...I'll settle for a hundred.

I was sent to the office to get a check and as I passed by the big-wig saloon...I stuck my head in and said; "You should never be afraid of hiring someone smarter than yourself," since it is evidence of good judgment." "I won't be working here any more since the disdain and contempt you people feel for the line-worker and the material handlers and all the "unskilled labor" you pad the bottom line with.... deserve better."

And I quit on the spot.

Most of the suits only know how to deal with numbers ,Human resources or some other no mind sh*t. when a crisis pops up they're paralyzed with indecision. You can always tell a good manager is the one who seeks advice from the people under him.

How true, Lester, but:

One of the suits where I used to work, liked to feel he was "in touch" with the workies, and instead of "cascading a plan down on them" (his words, no sh!t), would call a meeting on company paid for time, send out for pizza, also company paid for, and would "share" the next company plan with us, and solicit feedback, to "incorporate" our 'input" into the corporate vision.

Then go and do exactly what the **** they had planned to do all along.

Hey, the pizza was nice.

go figure.
