context is everything. It would highly depend on the reason they were borrowing. Overall, people are more important to me than things. But if they were borrowing it for a frivolous reason, I'd likely say no.

I had to think about this for a bit. As a person with no means to replace my vehicle if it takes a dive, I've always said I wouldn't lend it to someone who couldn't or wouldn't replace it if they broke it.

.... but if a friend was in dire straights, I know I'd either suck it up and lend it to them or else get off my butt and drive them myself.

I am responsible for the damage my car does - whether I'm behind the wheel or not. I have to pay for repairs. I'm the one who has to walk if the car's not there. Does buddy fully understand that if anything happens - that car is stolen?
