They're stealing food? I wouldn't agree with it, but if I knew they were in desperate straights, I wouldn't snitch. .........there but for fortune..........

Just MHO, but anyone who says they wouldn't steal food has never been really hungry.

If they're stealing some "stuff", I'd talk to them and suggest they put it back, and get some help.

Still wouldn't snitch, as a snitch is something lower than whalesh!t, actually lower than the little organisms which feed underneath whalesh!t..

Reporting a serious crime one has witnessed is one thing, shoplifting is quite another.........remember we're talking "food", not anything else.

Gotta get your moral priorities straight, but draw the line at something a bit more serious, and climb down off our high ponies.

Tell and run is not my style. About anything.

I also like Nug's comment about the food. Who knows what is motivating them?

I'm more of an in-your-face kinda girl. I would rather approach the person and and attempt to get more info.

...under normal circumstances i would be offended but after having been a store manager for five years and you have to figure 5-7% of your budget as theft then you are forced to raise prices (this does not include the `shoppers` already in the store)

Okay, I'm confused here. Why would you be offended. I was an district manager in retail for years....... what's to be offended about.

Loss prevention is an integral part of the job. So is understanding your customer.

I'd go to the person I know and tell them if they carried through with the theft I would inform the store. If they did it from hunger or some such emergency I would feed them, or clothe them, or remedy whatever it was that gave them hardship.

I would make a 'general' comment to the store 'customer service', but I wouldn't give any
name, I would suggest that they tighten up on their security, as I saw someone stealing
food, but I would not 'rat' on them. The store will have to do a better job.

I would never snitch on someone for stealing food- as far as I'm concerned eating is a fundamental right, along with air and water.
