it has recently come to my attention that donor cards, do not resuscitate and donating your body to science can be blocked or over turned by surviving family members
does that also mean that your will can be challenged?
if this is so and i have not been able to get a definite yes or no on these things, what was the point of putting them into place?
is anyone out there familiar with this and does it change from province to province?
clarification on this would be appreciated from anyone in the know

thank you, scratch

That's why it should be discussed among the family. Once you're no longer using it, your body becomes property and, as such, is subject to all the greed, graft and grief of any other chattel. Hey, if there's a buck to be made, lawyers are perfectly willing to take part of it.

Estates are governed Provincially. I know in BC for example there is a Wills Variation Act which allows for children to contest parts of a will under certain conditions. That is not the case in every Province.

As for donor cards, ultimately your executor decides where and how your body is put to rest.

I don't think legally they can overturn your wishes to donate your organs or to have a dnr order. The problem is when you're not quite dead. Then they'll keep you alive forever. DNR only means don't do a full code on you when your heart stops. It doesn't mean they can't use feeding tubes, ventillators, meds, etc to keep your body going for a good long while.
